SCOTT “SCOTTIE” McELROY

AIR FORCE VETERAN

As the first military spouse liaison with the non-profit organization Aligned Education Foundation, Scott (Scottie) McElroy serves as an advocate for Veterans and active-duty servicemembers and their families. Scottie is ideally suited to this position. In part due to his 13-year Air Force career, but also because his exemplary credentials include the rare honor of having been asked by two chief master sergeants of the Air Force to function as spouse mentors for Air Force command chiefs and their spouses.

In his current role, Scottie seeks out Veterans and active-duty personnel to educate them on the VA Home Loan benefit. Additionally, he aims to ensure that the families he encounters avoid the pitfalls experienced by many Veterans and active-duty military personnel who bought homes without thoroughly educating themselves on the procedure. Scottie’s love of mentoring his fellow servicemembers leads to another significant goal. To empower through education so that potential homeowners will not only know the benefits of purchasing property versus renting but also save money by learning how to access the most advantageous deals. Scottie’s position is that once Veterans familiarize themselves with all phases of the VA Home loan process and understand the intricacies, they can learn how to shop around and, ultimately, make the best choices for their families. Not only does he thrive on the education process, but Scottie loves meeting countless Veterans and servicemembers who share their stories and varied paths in life.

Originally from Seattle and currently living and working in Schertz, Texas, Scottie has gained experience as a military spouse since his separation from the Air Force in 2006. He married his wife, Chief Master Sergeant Eryn McElroy, Command Chief of the Air Force Personnel Center, in 2004. They share a blended family that includes five children and two grandchildren.

Scottie enjoys watching sports in his spare time, especially the Seattle Seahawks. But when the sun is shining, he and his family will spend downtime in their swimming pool.
